If religion is about faith in the existence of powerful celestial beings that you have never met but are convinced are there… meet John.
Hi my name is John and I believe in extra-terrestrial beings. I’ve been a believer for 40 years or more that we are not alone. I mean how could we be? The universe is so vast and if there is life here why shouldn’t there be life elsewhere?
I run seti@home on my computer. I think its a fantastic thing that I am able to join together with others of like mind and feel a sense of purpose, of reaching out into the unknown.
Am I religious? No, I’ve never been religions. I’m just not into that sort of thing. I believe in solid facts, science, astronomy. Things that can be tested.
It’s always instructive when someone derides a system of belief which is essentially a permutation of their own. It’s especially instructive when the aggressor’s target is ‘religion’ and its obvious faults.
It is at these times when human prejudice and wilful ignorance most blinding and cruelly mock the mocker, oblivious to the fact that his own belief structure is nothing but a distorted mirror image of the thing he attacks.
